What is neurotechnology

Neurotechnology is defined by the National Institutes of Health "the assembly methods and instruments that enable direct connection of technical components with the nervous system". In other words, it refers to the methods and tools that connect devices directly to the nervous system allowing machines or devices to interact with our brain, nerves and spinal cord, in order to provide some kind of medical gain or aid. a good common example would be an MRI, which is a kind of brain imaging that can be used when trying to detect the presence of tumors or brain injuries

People tend to think that neurotechnology directly means to getting chips and devices inside f your brain, even though is true that some neurotech devices require this, it is not the majority of them, and as just said before, the MRI's are great example of it, as they do not require invasive procedures; instead it requires the patient to just lay down in a capsule and staying still, while with the help of magnetic fields and signaling detection, the machine will process those signals and create a 3D image of the brain or whatever structure it is being used to observe.

However if we aimed to look at example that were more of the "invasive" type, we would definitely have to take a look at BCI's or Brain Computer Interfaces, which are used to create direct communication between he brain and an external deceive, such as a computer or even a prosthetic, they can detect and interpret neural signals and translate them into commands or actions for controlling such devices or just for overall interaction with a digital system

These interfaces can be in invasive, which mean they would require surgical implantation of electrodes into the brain, but some of them can also be non-invasive and would use sensors like EEG to measure brain activity without any surgeries. There are many uses for BCI's such as assisting patients with disabilities, enabling brain control of prosthetics, or even for overall research in neuroscience.

Neurotechnology can open many door for the future of humans; helping people from having lost some part of their body such as an arm all the way to helping people who just want to get a test to view their brain to be sure nothing extraneous is taking place such as tumors. If well it is true that some devices of neurotechnology can seem scarry, it is important to note that when it comes to the healthcare field, the main goal is always to help the patient to be as healthy as they can and ensuring a healthy and prosperous life.
